GoPro footage has captured the emotional moment Thai rescuers reached five men trapped inside a flooded Laos cave for nearly a week.
“My name is Benz, I’m Thai. I’m here to rescue all of you,” one rescuer tells the exhausted survivors in the underground chamber, as the group responds with thanks and relief.
The men had entered the cave in Laos’ Xaisomboun province searching for gold before heavy rain and a landslide sealed the entrance. The survivors told rescuers they were weak and starving but largely uninjured after days trapped underground.
Thai and Lao rescue teams are still searching for two more missing men, with specialist divers — including a veteran of Thailand’s famous 2018 cave rescue — involved in the dangerous operation.
