The US and Chinese Presidents appear to have put their differences aside today in Beijing, meeting for what was a largely cordial first day of their highly anticipated summit.

Xi Jinping told Donald Trump they should be “partners rather than rivals” – and that cooperation would benefit both of them.

But with less than 24 hours left until the US President is due to depart, there are still no signs of any major breakthroughs.
