‘Lost that race’: Albanese’s move to curb negative gearing criticised amid housing shortage fears
Property Council of Australia Chief Executive Mike Zorbas says “new supply” is most vulnerable in the housing market, as the Albanese government is set to curb negative gearing in the 2026 federal budget.
“We are 100 homes per 1000 homes behind the other advanced economies of the world,” Mr Zorbas told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
“We have lost that race over a 30-year period; it cannot be fixed in four or five years, and it won’t be fixed by changing the tax regime.”
