Paramedic stabbing exposes legal loophole | 7NEWS
A 32-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a MICA paramedic in the face and neck at a Reservoir shopping strip. The paramedic was attacked from behind while getting items from his car during a coffee break, with the knife narrowly missing his main artery and spine. The incident has exposed a legal loophole in Victoria, as custodial sentences for assaulting emergency workers currently only apply when they are officially on duty, not during breaks, prompting the state government to promise law changes.
