Northern Beaches Hospital in Frenchs Forest has been transferred from private to public ownership after eight years, with the NSW Government taking control and more than 1,800 health staff joining the public system. The transition was accelerated following the death of two-year-old Joe Massa due to inadequate emergency care, leading to the passing of Joe’s Law which prohibits similar private-public hospital partnerships in the future. A planned high-volume surgery hub will expand the hospital’s capacity and reduce surgical wait times across the state.
