Donald Trump and other members of his US administration were the likely targets of a shooting at a press gala in Washington on Saturday, Acting US Attorney-General Todd Blanche has said.
The suspect, who was tackled and arrested, fired a shotgun at a Secret Service officer at the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday night, local time, where people had gathered for the White House correspondents’ dinner.
A string of world leaders have expressed their solidarity with the US president and a planned visit to America by King Charles this week is expected to go ahead.
