Kickoff for Virginia Tech’s 2026 Spring Football Game was delayed by more than an hour after a parachutist crashed into the scoreboard at Blacksburg’s Lane Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
The parachutist was part of a team of three skydivers, with one carrying the US flag, reports said. The skydiver tasked with carrying the US flag crashed into the upper right corner of the scoreboard.
This video, captured by @yakubbsmonster, shows the parachutist slowly drifting towards the scoreboard before slamming into it.
The skydiver was rescued within 15 minutes and was deemed by a medical team on site to have no serious injuries, reports said. The game eventually started at 4.10 pm.
Other footage verified by Storyful shows first responders using a cherry picker to reach the parachutist.
