Hegseth quotes Pulp Fiction during prayer at Pentagon

US defence secretary Pete Hegseth appears to have quoted the film Pulp Fiction instead of the Bible during a prayer at the Pentagon.

Hegseth asked the crowd to join in the prayer that he said was often recited by the crew of a recent rescue mission of a pilot in Iran.

The prayer, dubbed CSAR 25:17, contains lines said by actor Samuel L Jackson in the critically acclaimed 1994 film.

The final line of the prayer is an interpretation of the Bible passage Ezekiel 25:17, that says: “I will carry out great vengeance on them and punish them in my wrath. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I take vengeance on them.”

Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell denied there was any misquotation in a post on X, saying that anyone reporting that “is peddling fake news and ignorant of reality”.
