Israel reopens Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt
Israel has confirmed the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt has officially reopened.
The Rafah crossing has been closed since May 2024, but after several negotiations and speculation, it’s now going to reopen as part of the US-led peace plan.
Officials are calling it a “pilot run”, hoping to let people cross the border soon.
Israel is imposing huge limitations – those leaving Gaza will include people who have urgent medical needs and will be allowed to have two companions with them.
Israel will allow up to a maximum of 150 people to cross out of Gaza each day and 50 people to enter.
Each person crossing in either direction will undergo strict security screening carried out by Israel.
