Why students and shopkeepers are protesting in Iran
Iranian students staged street protests in Tehran, a day after the capital’s shopkeepers demonstrated over inflation and currency devaluation.
The protests started on Sunday after shopkeepers in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar staged a strike when the Iranian rial hit a record low against the US dollar on the open market.
The Iranian government said it “recognises the protests” and has sought dialogue with the protest leaders.
