Taiwan launches emergency response as deadly typhoon bears down on the island’s west coast
Taiwan has launched an emergency response as a deadly typhoon bears down on the island’s west coast.
The tropical cyclone has already torn through the Philippines and forced 1.4 million people from their homes.
Taiwan has evacuated mountain villages and ordered schools and offices in five regions to be closed ahead of the arrival of Typhoon Fung-wong.
More than a day out from landfall, the Category Two tropical cyclone has already flooded a key road in the east and triggered landslides across the island.
