Top Indian insurgent leader returns home after more than five decades in exile

After more than five decades in exile, the leader of India’s largest insurgent group in the country’s north-east has been allowed to return to his village.

Thuingaleng Muivah, the 91-year-old chief of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland’s Isak Muivah faction, has been holding peace talks with the Indian government.

His homecoming is expected to set the tone for a settlement of one of the longest running rebel movements in India.
