Pope Leo and King Charles pray together in 500-year first | ABC NEWS
It’s been pretty much five centuries since King Henry the Eighth broke away from Rome in 1534.
After that an English monarch and a Catholic pontiff have not prayed together, at least not until King Charles and Pope Leo prayed together in the Sistine Chapel.
That historic moment was planned as part of a royal visit by the king and Queen Camilla marking the strengthening ties between the Catholic and Anglican churches.
The king sat to the pope’s left, near the altar, during a joint service that featured the Sistine Chapel Choir and two royal choirs.
