How Finland has spent decades preparing for a Russian invasion | ABC NEWS
As Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine and ramps up threats to NATO countries in Europe’s east, Finland has spent decades to prepare for a Russian invasion.
Helsinki has built an extensive network of underground bunkers and maintained high defence spending, while a majority of the Finnish population support the government’s conscription policy.
Finland officially shut its border with Russia in 2023 after the Ukraine war broke out.
While the border closure has affected the local economies of border towns such as Imatra, many residents only want to welcome back Russian tourists once Moscow ceases hostilities against Kyiv.
