Three people killed in Shellharbour light plane crash
Three people have been killed in a light plane crash at Shellharbour Airport near Wollongong.
The pilot and two passengers were believed to be flying to Bathurst when the single-engine Piper Cherokee Lance struck the runway not long after take-off.
According to Illawarra Fire and Rescue NSW duty commander Andrew Barber, emergency services were on the scene within minutes. However, he said the intensity of the fire left “no chance for survival”.
A crime scene has been established and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has sent staff to the site to investigate.
