A 55-year-old man was taken into custody after attacking his son-in-law’s killer during a sentencing hearing at a Phoenix courtroom, with footage capturing the moment Alberto Ontiveros Sanchez struck Abel Uribe multiple times.
The tense moment unfolded after Sanchez gave an emotional statement to the court and alleged he saw Uribe laughing and snickering. He is seen lunging at and punching Uribe several times in the back of the head while the defendant is seated in handcuffs.
The incident happened at a sentencing hearing for Uribe on Wednesday, September 23. Uribe had pleaded guilty to shooting and killing David Navidad-Parra, an Army captain on military leave, during a private vehicle sale in 2022.
Once proceedings resumed, the convicted killer apologized to the victim’s family. Under a plea deal, he was sentenced to life in prison and will be eligible for parole after 25 years, ABC reported.
Sanchez was later released on his own recognisance, FOX10 reported.
