How are the Republicans polling ahead of the US midterm elections?

At last week’s first ever Republican midterm convention, Donald Trump promised to give all adult American citizens US$5,000 if the party wins both the US House and Senate.

But if history and recent polling are anything to go by, the chances of the GOP maintaining their majority in both chambers is looking increasingly unlikely.

Ahead of the November midterm elections, many pollsters are giving the Democrats the edge in a number of Senate and Congressional races – including in some of the country’s reddest states.
