In a rare glimmer of hope amid Nepal’s catastrophic flood disaster, headmaster Rajendra Dawadi saved the lives of more than 1,500 students and 60 faculty members at Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot. After a panicked parent arrived on a motorbike warning of an upstream surge, Dawadi made the split-second decision to halt classes, ring the emergency bell, and evacuate the campus. Just 14 minutes after the last student bus crossed to safety, a roaring wall of water and mud engulfed the school peninsula, completely erasing the campus and leaving it underwater. While over 700 people have perished across the Himalayan region, Dawadi’s decisive action ensured every single student and teacher escaped without a single loss of life.
