23 rescued from collapsed gold mine in Colombia | ABC NEWS
23 miners were brought out of a gold mine after being trapped underground for 43 hours, in Colombia’s north.
The mine’s main entrance collapsed due to a “geomechanical failure”.
The high price of gold promotes unsafe conditions in Colombian gold mines, many of which are unlicensed.
Earlier this month, the collapse of an illegal gold mine in the Cauca province lead to the deaths of seven miners.
