A thousand Australians have defied the threat of flight cancellations and chaos caused by the Iran war to make the pilgrimage to the Somme ahead of Anzac Day.
Joining them for the dawn service at Villers-Bretonneux: a record crowd of 1500 French locals pausing to remember one of history’s most bitter battles.
