The NSW Government has released a 20-year plan for Sydney to accommodate 1.3 million new residents and 800,000 homes by 2046, with the city’s population expected to surge past 6.6 million. The blueprint focuses on increasing density in Sydney’s east and both sides of the harbour, while creating almost a million new jobs predominantly in western suburbs including Parramatta, Liverpool, Bradfield and Campbelltown. Councils like Woollahra and residents in eastern suburbs have expressed concerns about the feasibility of increased density, while developers warn that current construction rates of 20,000 homes per year fall well short of the required 40,000 annual target.
