TV host rubbishes Kiwi MP’s claims of English being a ‘bastard language’

News24 host Caleb Bond says there isn’t a language that hasn’t borrowed from others and reappropriated them, despite a New Zealand Greens MP labelling English as a ‘bastardisation’.

“Is there a language on Earth that has not taken words or elements from another language?” he said.

“Language has always been a fluid thing, has always been influenced by outside sources.

“We’ve all borrowed terms from each other for time immemorial.”
