Socceroos legend Paul Wade reveals terminal CTE diagnosis | 7NEWS

Former Socceroos captain Paul Wade has been diagnosed with probable chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a terminal brain disease he attributes to heading a soccer ball thousands of times during his 15-year professional career. The diagnosis has sparked calls for protective measures for young players in Australia, similar to England’s ban on heading for children under 12. Neurologist Dr Rowena Mobbs, who has been treating Wade for over two years, confirms the condition is linked to repetitive traumatic brain injuries sustained throughout his football career.
