Government announces Islamophobia crackdown, rejects terror law changes | 7NEWS

The Albanese government has announced measures to combat Islamophobia following Special Envoy Aftab Malik’s report, which documented rising hatred including graffiti, vandalism and pig’s heads left at mosques. The Prime Minister rejected the report’s most controversial recommendation to amend terrorism laws, but is implementing an education taskforce, training programs, mental health funding and improved reporting pathways to the Australian Federal Police. The government used the announcement to criticise One Nation leader Pauline Hanson over her April podcast comments describing Islam as an ideology based on terrorism, while Hanson faces scrutiny over her taxpayer-funded trip to Italy and the UK.
