Light sentences expected in Laos methanol poisoning case | 7NEWS
Two Melbourne teenagers, Bianca Jones and Holly Bowles, died in November 2024 after consuming methanol-laced cocktails at a backpacker hotspot in Laos. Those allegedly responsible are expected to face only minor charges carrying a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a collective fine of $1,600 Australian dollars, rather than serious criminal prosecution. The Australian government has expressed deep frustration, summoned Laos’ ambassador to Australia for a diplomatic meeting, and dispatched a special envoy to Laos.
