Canadian freight train ‘encased in flames’ | ABC NEWS
Operators on a freight train in rural Ontario, Canada, have been trapped by a raging wildfire.
Ontario politician Sol Mamakwa, of the north-western electorate of Kiiwetinoong, shared the video to social media, writing:
“I hope these guys are OK.”
The Canadian National Railway Company later confirmed the train’s crew had been successfully evacuated and was safe.
“Rail operations near Armstrong have been temporarily suspended due to wildfire activity,” the company said.
“CN employees in the area and residents of the town of Armstrong were evacuated on the night of July 13.”
More than 800 fires have broken out across across Canada, with more than 100 spiralling out of control, burning more than 1.9 million hectares, the government of Canada says, according to the latest report from Reuters.
