‘Australia must lead’: AI investment at risk as Labor weighs new regulations
Sky News host Jaimee Rogers warns Australia risks missing out on billions in AI investment, arguing excessive regulation and union interference could send jobs and innovation overseas.
“AI will change our economy more than the internet,” Ms Rogers said.
“The question isn’t whether it’s coming. But instead, will Australia lead it or regulate it until the investment goes somewhere else?
“Anthony Albanese wants an Office of AI in the Prime Minister’s department.
“Australia attracted $10 billion in data centre investment last year. Anthropic wants to spend another $21 billion here if they get policy certainty.
“There are already examples of Unions demanding a say in how AI is implemented in the workplace to ensure jobs aren’t lost.
“The countries that embrace AI will create jobs, build the companies; Australia should absolutely have safeguards. But safeguards should give investors confidence. Not give them reasons to invest somewhere else.”
