Multiple tornadoes tear through the US Midwest as thousands lose power
Several massive tornadoes have ripped through parts of the United States, destroying homes and causing widespread damage.
The US National Weather Service said multiple tornadoes touched down across Illinois and northwestern Indiana on Thursday.
The storms were fuelled by high humidity and arrived quickly, catching some residents by surprise and offering little time to prepare.
The storms knocked out power to more than 400,000 homes, and there’s a renewed risk for future storms across the central states on the weekend.
