Optus to allow independent investigation into outage linked to deaths | ABC NEWS


Telecommunications giant Optus has confirmed it will facilitate and independent investigation into its widespread outage which disrupted access to emergency calls for customers in South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Three confirmed deaths have been linked to the inability to call 000 during the network blackout, while a fourth one is suspected.
Optus CEO Stephen Rue attributed the incident to a firewall upgrade.
Emergency Management Minister Kristy McBain is urging a review of Optus protocols as the federal government pledges to scrutinise the incident as well.
