‘They don’t have a choice’: Trump says Iran’s economy in ‘freefall’ amid peace talks
US President Donald Trump says Iran may be delaying progress on a peace agreement.
During a cabinet meeting that lasted nearly two hours this morning, the American President said Iran could be seeking more favourable terms by extending negotiations closer to the US midterm elections.
Mr Trump commented on this.
“It looks like they want to just make a deal … I don’t think they have a choice,” Mr Trump said.
“Their economy is in freefall, they have 250 per cent inflation.
“They thought they were going to out-wait me … I don’t care about the midterms.”
At the same time, Iranian state television reports Tehran has presented a draft agreement to the US, which would reportedly restore commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels within a month.
