Iran talks stall as US carries out new “defensive” strikes

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says a potential deal with Iran could still be days away, despite ongoing negotiations aimed at ending months of conflict.
Rubio’s comments came after fresh U.S. strikes in southern Iran, which Washington described as defensive operations to protect American troops.
Speaking to reporters aboard his plane, Rubio said talks were progressing but warned disagreements over key wording were still being worked through.
The latest strikes were carried out even as a ceasefire remains technically in place. U.S. Central Command said the operations targeted threats posed by Iranian forces.
Iranian state media meanwhile claimed the country had shot down a “hostile” stealth drone using a newly developed air defence system.
Diplomatic talks between Tehran and Washington are continuing in Doha, with reports suggesting both sides are discussing a phased reopening of the Strait of Hormuz if an agreement is reached.
President Donald Trump said negotiations were moving forward but warned there would either be “a great deal for all” or “no deal at all.”
Global markets reacted cautiously to the developments, with oil prices rising again amid concerns tensions in the Middle East could escalate further.
