Australian man dies after falling during hike on Peru’s Inca Trail
An Australian man has died in Peru after falling up to 400 metres while walking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
53-year-old Matthew Cameron Paton was hiking with a group of tourists at 2pm on Wednesday, when it’s believed he tripped and fell.
He was reported missing until authorities found and retrieved his body on Thursday.
The man had been travelling in Peru with his wife.
His body is expected to be transported to the city of Cusco in the coming hours.
