A study has revealed that one in three bottle shops in Melbourne are selling illicit vodka containing dangerous levels of methanol, with some bottles containing more than 10 times the legal limit. The contaminated alcohol also contains plastics and is often indistinguishable from legitimate brands. The illegal alcohol can be identified by poor quality labels, missing barcodes, lack of health and pregnancy warnings, and flakes in the liquid.
