‘She knows it’s a lie’: Labor accused of fear campaign over Liberal’s election promises
Sky News host Paul Murray accuses Labor ministers of deliberately misleading Australians over the Coalition’s proposed welfare restrictions for non-citizens.
“He made it very clear that God forbid Australia shouldn’t be giving any sort of welfare support to people who aren’t citizens of the country,” Mr Murray said.
“His promise that if he became prime minister in a couple of years time, that would be the rule.
“The policy doesn’t actually affect any person in the country until day one of a new liberal government. It’s grandfathered like all the negative gearing stuff is for all the Labor MPs who’ve amassed their fortunes with it.
“Like or dislike the policy, it doesn’t affect a single person who voted in the last election, and it won’t affect a single person who will vote in the next election; it will only apply to people moving towards the 2032 election.
“Here’s an example of how the Labor Party is lying directly to people who are currently in the country, paying their taxes, but have not become citizens. Remember, people who will not be affected by the policy.
“So, she [Clare O’Neil] knows it’s a lie, but she’s telling everyone to share it anyway.”
