Eurovision Israel contestant speaks with SBS about protesters
Israel’s Eurovision contestant, Noam Bettan, has spoken with SBS about protests that have been held in response
to the country’s inclusion at this year’s event in Vienna.
Protests have been held both inside the venue and on the streets of Vienna, condemning the deaths and injuries to civilians in Gaza and Lebanon, as the US-Israel war with Iran, and Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah, continues.
Noam Bettan, who was an early favourite to take the Eurovision title, said he could hear the protesters while on stage, but said he also heard cheers in support of his performance.
When asked about his response to those who don’t believe they should be at Eurovision, Bettam said, ‘we deserve to be heard,’ and hopes all contestants return next year.
