British Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces mounting pressure from within his own Labour Party, with more than 70 MPs calling for his resignation following devastating local government election results in Scotland and Wales. In a defiant speech in London, Starmer refused to step down, announced plans to nationalise British Steel, and pledged to rebuild Britain’s relationship with Europe. At least five ministers, including Home Secretary Shibana Mahmood, have urged him to set a timetable to quit after what some describe as Labour’s worst electoral performance in 100 years.
