A growing number of older Australians are being left in a state of indignity, stranded in hospital for weeks, months and sometimes longer, because they have nowhere else to go.
It’s what’s known as “red block” and it’s a growing problem right across Australia.
New figures obtained by the ABC show the number of aged care patients in this situation have surged by more than 35 per cent in less than a year.
Despite fresh promises from the federal government to address the issue, there are concerns it won’t be enough to turn the tide.
