Keir Starmer refuses to step down after Labour suffers major local election defeats
There has been a seismic change across the UK’s political landscape in the wake of government and council elections.
Labour has lost hundreds of local government seats in England and has admitted defeat in Wales, which was previously a stronghold for the party.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is refusing to step down despite the disastrous results, vowing to stay and fight on.
It was an excellent result for right-wing party Reform UK, gaining over 700 council seats in England and potentially becoming the main opposition party in Scotland and Wales.
Reform also took control of three councils, which leader Nigel Farage believes is a sign of a major shift in UK politics.
