Operation Eclipse targets Melbourne hospitality crime wave | 7NEWS
Victoria Police has established Operation Eclipse, a major task force combining specialist detectives from arson, gang crime and cybercrime squads to investigate a wave of arson attacks, drive-by shootings and kidnappings targeting Melbourne hospitality venues. Since late March, 15 people have been arrested in connection with attacks concentrated in the CBD, Port Phillip and Stonnington areas, with police identifying a pattern of organised crime groups recruiting young people and paying them between $500 and $20,000 to carry out the attacks. Two 16-year-old boys were denied bail after being charged with conspiracy to commit arson following an incident at Left Bank restaurant in Southbank.
