Ricky Morris is the 21st member of his family to serve in the Australian military, following a legacy of Indigenous service members from the Gunditjmara people of southwest Victoria. He served in East Timor and Afghanistan with the 4th/19th Prince of Wales Light Horse, unknowingly enlisting in the same regiment as his grandfather who fought in World War I. Despite generations of distinguished service, Indigenous veterans like his grandfather faced discrimination upon returning home, being denied soldier resettlement and confined to missions due to their Aboriginality.
