President Donald Trump said on Thursday (April 23) he would “look into” concerns about federal employees using prediction markets after reports a U.S. Army soldier was charged in a Maduro-related betting case.
Asked about the allegations, Trump jokingly compared the case to famous baseball player Pete Rose betting on his own team.
Trump also said he did not support such behavior: “I was never much in favor of it. I don’t like it conceptually.”
The Justice Department said earlier on Thursday it had charged soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who allegedly made $400,000 using confidential information while taking part in the planning and execution of the January operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
