Treasurer Jim Chalmers has promised to reduce regulatory red tape in the upcoming federal budget as a business alliance calls for a 25% reduction in red tape costs by 2030. The duplication of regulations between local, state and federal governments currently costs Australian businesses $160 billion annually, with industries citing examples such as requiring 37 different licences to serve coffee in Victoria and separate licences for tradies working across state borders.
