Israel and Lebanon agree to 10-day ceasefire as historic peace talks continue

US President Donald Trump has announced a historic 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon as peace talks continue to end the conflict.

The announcement follows six weeks of intense fighting between the two nations as Israel targets Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah agreed to the ceasefire but stressed it must include “a comprehensive halt to attacks” from Israel and “no freedom of movement for Israeli forces”.

The conflict between Israel and Lebanon ignited on March 2, two days following US-led strikes on Iran, during which Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel.

Following Trump’s statement, he announced he was inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House.
