Keir Starmer ‘should resign’ for hiring Peter Mandelson after failing security vetting

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing calls to “resign” after shocking revelations that he hired Peter Mandelson despite failing security checks.

Prime Minister Starmer hired Mandelson to serve as the UK’s ambassador to the US in 2024.

According to The Australian, Mandelson was initially denied security clearance in January 2025 but was eventually overruled by the Foreign Office.

The BBC reported that Downing Street claimed Starmer was unaware that Mandelson failed the vetting process, with Foreign Office officials allowing Mandelson to take up the role.

Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch blasted the Prime Minister for “misleading Parliament”, asserting Starmer “should resign”.
