‘Perfect bullseye splashdown’ of Artemis II | ABC NEWS

The Artemis II crew has safely returned to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean at about 10:07am AEST.

NASA said it was a “perfect bullseye splashdown” and the four astronauts were in “great condition”.

On the trip back home, the crew reached a speed of almost 40,000 km/h as they entered Earth’s atmosphere and had a six-minute communication blackout.

It was a high-risk phase of the mission that tested the spacecraft’s heat shield as it was battered by intense atmospheric friction and temperatures of more than 2,500 degrees Celsius.
