Senior Trump official accuses CNN of reporting ‘pro-Iran regime propaganda’
A senior Trump administration official has accused CNN of pushing “pro-Iran regime propaganda” after a report from inside the country went viral online.
Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson criticised the network on X, sharing a clip of Frederik Pleitgen reporting from Iran while holding a coffee.
“CNN appears to now be doing straight up pro-Iran regime propaganda because someone gave this guy a coffee,” Johnson wrote.
The post quickly gained traction online, drawing thousands of reactions and amplifying criticism from conservatives who argue Western media coverage of Iran has been overly sympathetic to the regime.
Pleitgen responded directly to the accusation on X, writing simply: “I bought the coffee”.
