Republican Jose Antonio Kast wins Chile’s presidential election
Chile has elected a new president who’s been described as the most right-wing figure since the end of the Pinochet dictatorship 35 years ago.
Republican candidate Jose Antonio Kast won a resounding 58 per cent of the vote in the country’s second-round runoff election, against Communist Party candidate Jeannette Jara.
The race was largely fought on immigration and law and order.
