Bondi Beach shooting: How ‘massive’ investigation has unfolded so far
NSW Police say a “massive” and “complex” investigation is underway into the father and son alleged to have carried out the mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
The NSW and federal governments have moved to further tighten gun laws after it was revealed the 50-year-old, reported to be Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police at the scene, had a firearms licence. Police say all six firearms licensed to Akram have been seized during raids on homes connected with the alleged attackers in the Sydney suburbs of Bonnyrigg and Campsie. His 24-year-old son, reported to be Naveed Akram, remains in hospital with critical injuries.
Australia’s national security agency said the 24-year-old came to the attention of ASIO in 2019 after being associated with people who had extremist ideologies.
