German and Danish teens react to Australian social media ban
Teenagers at a high school in western Germany have expressed their support for Australia’s under-16 social media ban, recognising social media’s addictive nature and negative impacts.
But there were concerns that social media also has positive uses and that implementing a ban would be difficult in practice.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Denmark announced it will ban access to social media for anyone under 15, which could become law as early as mid-2026.
Unlike Australia, it’s proposed that parents will be able to override the rules to enable 13 and 14 year olds to retain platform access.
