$20k worth of meat stolen from steakhouse
A Melbourne restaurant has been left $20,000 out of pocket after thieves allegedly broke into its cool room before dawn and stole a large haul of meat in just minutes.
Basq, a steak-focused restaurant in Melbourne’s Essendon Fields dining precinct, has vowed to keep serving customers after thieves allegedly stole $20,000 worth of meat from its cool room, with the manager describing the blow as “devastating” for the small business.
“It’s a disappointing day here today at Basq, unfortunately we’ve been burgled and all our meat has been stolen,” the manager said in a video posted to social media.
